One sunny day, a 3-year-old young boy, named Dan is playing in his backyard in New Orleans, Louisiana. His mom is watching him.
For a few seconds, Dan runs off into the garage.
In the garage, there is a can of gasoline, which trips Dan over and unfortunately, there is a hot water heater in the garage with flames. Instantly, it explodes while Dan is only a couple feet away. Immediately, 80% of Dan’s body is burnt in this unfortunate accident.
His mother runs and rushes him to the hospital.
Dan is burnt from head to toe. His hands and toes are falling off from his body. No one has anticipated that he could survive. However, Dan did survive.
During the course of next 12 years, Dan undergoes almost 80 surgeries.
An Inspired Drummer
Dan had always loved music but he is hopelessly burnt to even hold any instrument. However, the passion and desire in him to be a musician keeps growing. Music is inside Dan’s soul.
With the help of his friends and family, Dan pursues his passion for music. Not only he has become a musician, he is a very popular drummer, that too without any fingers.
One day, Dan is invited to be interviewed on TV. When asked, how was your journey like? Did you ever complained about what happened?
Dan replies “I have no right to complain or make excuses. I have been given a blessing from God, which lies, in my music. If I complain about it, then it will be an insult to my parents and God.”
“Since my childhood, I saw that people looked at me differently because I looked scarred, different, and with no hands or toes.”
“However, I wanted them to see me normally, and not differently. Therefore, I knew that I had to do everything better than everybody else did, just to fit in.”
“When I was in Kindergarten, we were asked to learn to tie our shoes. I could not grip the laces to pull a knot tight and I struggled with this for a very very long time. I felt at times, that it would never happen.”
“It took me 7 years to have the grip to tie a knot. That day when I tied the shoes all by myself, I felt liberated.”
“It felt like I was in the presence of divine that was guiding me.”
“That day, I decided I could achieve anything if I keep trying, as divine force is guiding me all the time.”
“I also decided that I would persistently try to learn drums and be a master of it.”
Now, Dan plays drums using tennis wristbands and he enjoys his life playing for various bands.
